According to the old notes, which have been preserved, the band was first mentioned
in 1829, when the members of the brass band played at the masquarade and
then in 1847, when they played at placing the bells on the tower of the parish
church of St. Nicholas in Metlika.
It was in 1850 when the Town brass band Metlika was formally founded and
since then it has kept that name for more than 156 years till now.
At the moment there are 58 male in female members in the brass band, aged
from ten to seventy-two. With respect to such structure we choose repertoire
which is performed. Our programme covers the classical music work, film music,
popular evergreens and pop music, popular folk music and arrangements of
modern genres, so it can satisfy every listener, which proves our well-attended
concerts. The present members of the band are mostly high-school and university
students with proper music knowledge and among them you can
find some with Gallus awards and also those, who have been regular members
and active players for up to 58 years.
We play round Slovenia and abroad, compete and achieve noticeable success,
which is the result of the strong will of our conduct and the strong will
of all the members of the band who have rejuvenated a lot in the last 10
years.
In
2005 we celebrated out 155 anniversary and therefore we issued out first
CD called "Greeeting from Vinska vigred".
During past 156 years there have been a lot of conductors of the band who
have stood in front of the players with their wands. Our present conductor
is Mr. Rafko Ogulin, the member of the band for more than 15 years.
Of course we have to mention the president of the brass band Mr. Bojan Flajnik,
who also keeps us in the good mood.
We are proud that many gifted former members of the band build up their basic
musical knowledge in the band, later studied music and today they work with
well-known orchestras or teach in music schools round Slovenia.
